Big Al's Scuba owner Allen Owens is a certified Master Instructor with PADI, which is the largest scuba diving certifying agency in the world. Allen's career in diving started as a Public Safety Diver for the Prattville Fire Department's Dive Rescue Team where he is the team's Public Safety Diver Instructor. Allen retired from the fire department October 1, 2019. He was the Assistant Chief, paramedic and dive team commander and was with the department for 25 years. Allen became a certified PADI Open Water Instructor in 2013. He also is a certified instructor for numerous PADI specialties. Allen has dove exotic oceans, some of the most memorable dives have included the USS Oriskany in the Gulf of Mexico, the waters of the Florida Keys, the shipwrecks and Sand Tiger Sharks of North Carolina, the reefs, wrecks and whale sharks of Honduras, and the most exciting cage dive with the Great White sharks off Guadalupe Island Mexico. Even though Big Al's Scuba isn't a brick and mortar building Allen's goal as an independent PADI instructor is to offer classes, instruction and certification for all levels of diving and providing a level of service that divers expect and deserve. He concentrates on doing four things; providing the best scuba diving instruction and experience to his customers, creating lasting friendships and having FUN!
